Ebene News – AU – Dangerfield Says He’s Ready To Scold

Geelong superstar Patrick Dangerfield allayed fears of a lingering groin injury, declaring himself’ painless’ and fit to play at least a small part in the preseason game AFL next week against Collingwood

The 30-year-old struggled with the fitness issue at the end of last season and went through a modified training regimen over the summer

He has no concerns about his availability for the Cats’ first meeting with Adelaide, but admitted it would take a while to fire all cylinders

“We had a good hitout today and it was sort of my first simulated match, although not huge, but a bit, which is good

“That being said, games make it easier and game continuity is always an adjustment anyway

“It’s probably not ideally where I would like to be, but the most important thing is that I move around quite freely and painlessly, which is good”

Dangerfield was impressed with seasoned rookies Jeremy Cameron, Isaac Smith and Shaun Higgins during the preseason, with the trio having to back Geelong’s attempt to do better than last year’s loss to Richmond

The Cats will use the modified game practice against Collingwood on Friday week and an official preseason game against Essendon to build chemistry with their new teammates

“That’s the challenge and it will always be a work in progress, even after the season has started,” said Dangerfield

“As we all know, COVID has given us its little challenges throughout this preseason and who knows what the future holds

“So this is the challenge for us and the more we work on the track the better and the better we all start to freeze”
