Ebene News – AU – Double wrap: Stosur and Ebden claim an exciting mixed semi

Sam Stosur and Matt Ebden continued their excellent run at the Australian Open in mixed doubles with a thrilling semi-final victory on Friday night

The Australian duo kept American Desirae Krawczyk and Briton Joe Salisbury 7-5 5-7 [10-8] sidelined to set up a final showdown with Barbora Krejcikova and Rajeev Ram, scheduled for Saturday night at the Rod Laver Arena after the women’s singles final

It was almost a perfect day of victory for Salisbury, who earlier Friday combined with Ram to return to the men’s Australian Open doubles final

The reigning champions saw Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares 6-4 7-6 (2) at Rod Laver Arena to extend their winning streak at Melbourne Park to 11 games

The duo will face Ivan Dodig and Filip Polasek in the title match on Sunday

Stosur was a mixed champion with Scott Draper in 2005 before Ebden combined with Jarmila Gadjosova to win the 2013 tournament Stosur also won the women’s doubles title with Zhang Shuai in 2019

And they continued that winning form in the first set on Court 3 in front of a parish crowd, Stosur shooting a return error from Krawczyk to win the first set

Her serve disappointed her in the last game of the second set, with three consecutive double faults giving her opponents the game

But in the tie-break of the match, Stosur stabilized, and she and Ebden joined forces to move forward 6-1

There were tense moments for the Aussie duo when Krawczyk and Salisbury found their way back with solid play at the net to reach level 8-8

In a fantastic response, Stosur hit a forehand return winner on Salibury’s second set to win match point, which Ebden converted with a volley winner to a forehand

“I think just being experienced helped us freeze quickly,” Ebden said of him and Stosur, who are playing together for the first time.

“We know what to expect from the mixed doubles format first, and we also know what to expect from each other, what we’re looking for

“We had a few good training sessions together We did a good job, quite a few hours of good practice, good warm-ups and good work, working on our game, getting ready for our matches

Salisbury’s disappointment was arguably tempered by his victory earlier today with Ram, who was in the stands at Court 3 to support his partner in the mixed semi-finals

After losing 3-0, Ram and Salisbury fell back in Game 5 and broke serve again in the ninth to lead 5-4 Salibury served the set comfortably, with Ram stealing a forehand winner for seal it

The second set did not feature a single breaking point, with a tie-break needed to separate the two teams

Here the defending champions stepped up, while Soares in particular unraveled; he played a backhand into the net to give Ram and Salisbury a 4-2 lead, stole a long forehand to give them a bunch of match points and double faulted the first of them for give victory to Ram and Salisbury

The American and the British finished the match with 34 brilliant winners against just seven errors

“It was such a tough game, I think we really had to dig deep, fight hard I think there were times when it was a really good level and times when it went down a bit and we had to fight to stay in this second set

“We obviously knew they were a great team, we faced them together, individually, so many times Getting that break early in the first set was very helpful for our morale and then playing a really good game the rest time, ”Ram said
