Ebene News – AU – Dylan Alcott wins seventh consecutive Australian Open title

Dylan Alcott is Australian Open champion for the seventh time in a row with a straight sets victory over Dutchman Sam Schroder

Alcott was never threatened in his 6-1, 6-0 win, which was played out at Margaret Court Arena after quarter-final Rafael Nadal-Stefanos Tsitsipas moved to five sets over Rod Laver Arena

“I feel very lucky to be doing my job right now, even though it is 12:45,” he said of the late check out

“But I’ll be playing at 3:00 am in the parking lot to be honest because it’s a privilege to come here every time and have the opportunity to play the Australian Open”

Unlike Tsitsipas’ victory on center court, which lasted more than four hours, Alcott handled business in a hurry

He was surprisingly broken in the first game of the match, but tore the opening set in 25 minutes and won 12 straight games en route to the title

His charge for his 12th major singles title was briefly interrupted by a seven-twos to 0-4 match in the second set, but he managed to convert his 17th save point of the evening, before serving the game

The 30-year-old’s victory came two days after he and Heath Davidson won the quadruple-doubles title for the fourth consecutive year
