French author Florian Zeller adapted his 2014 hit play about this evil disease as a screenplay, making The Father his directorial debut
True to its scenic roots, the film has a small cast and a central location Yet the way Zeller uses these two elements to illustrate the onset of dementia is as smart as it is visually captivating.
The film opens with Anne (Olivia Colman) rushing into a tasteful London apartment Her father, Anthony (Anthony Hopkins), 80, has fired another of the caregivers Anne hired for. look after him while she is at work Despite his denials, his memory has slipped and he is enraged by the evidence that his independence is slipping with her

Fortunately, the wave of Oscar nominations for this film did not ignore this piece’s other flagship performance – that of Olivia Colman Torn between guilt and love, her father and her partner, and struggling to find the good way in front of the bravado, the charm and the volatility of her father, Anne de Colman is magnificent
The Father offers an inventive and insightful perspective on dementia and the consequences it has on both people with dementia and those around them.With incredible performances by Hopkins and Colman, Zeller transformed this astonishing play into an outstanding directorial debut, creating one of the best films on aging of the modern era
