It’s taken a long time, but after nine years of a concept car, several spyshots and leaked images, Mitsubishi has finally presented the new fourth-generation Outlander The seven-seater SUV is all new from scratch ( although it’s not quite a local effort, for reasons that we’ll get to later), sporting a completely redesigned design and cutting-edge technology

If the styling sounds familiar to you, it’s not just because you’ve seen the leaks, but also because it’s derived from the 2019 Engelberg Tourer / e-Yi concept The Outlander features a new language of “Bold Stride” design as part of the “I-Fu-Do-Do” product concept, supposedly meaning authentic and majestic in Japanese

The front carries Mitsubishi’s latest interpretation of the Dynamic Shield face, already seen on the revamped Eclipse Cross This splits the headlights into a thin top layer, which includes the daytime running lights and turn signals, and the main lights larger hexagonal The grille has also been slimmed down with triple chrome slats and a hexagonal pattern, while a sturdy skid plate design adds some aggressiveness

On the side, the flared fenders give the Outlander a muscular look, while the split D-pillars give it the on-trend ‘floating roof’ look. The hexagonal theme continues in the side cladding and stamped tailgate, which would be inspired by the classic Pajero external spare tire The horizontal T-shaped rear lights are very wide, emphasizing the width of the car

In total there are nine body colors to choose from, six of which are standard hues The other paint options come from the special high-brightness Diamond range, which consists of White Diamond, Red Diamond and Black Diamond The latter is a new three-layer finish with a layer of high density glass flakes

Enter and you’ll find a modern horizontal instrument panel that features a leather-wrapped and stitched top layer, large center console, and a self-contained infotainment touchscreen Material selection has taken a step forward, with options featuring semi-aniline leather upholstery and genuine aluminum gearshift frame The front seats also have a two-layer urethane structure to improve comfort on long journeys

The Outlander is first and foremost a family SUV, so interior space is paramount To this end, the body is wider and offers more legroom for both first and second row occupants, while the 40:20:40 sliding second row seats increase the flexibility and functionality of the cabin Mitsubishi also boasts plenty of smartphone storage, including the center console tray and sides, the driver’s seat back and the side panels of the third row

Given that Mitsubishi is part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, it’s no surprise that we see a lot of switchgear from other models Details such as the climate controls and the layout of the steering wheel buttons are identical to those of the new Nissan X-Trail, with which the Outlander shares its platform and much of its mechanics This extends to in-car technologies, where the new car has taken a huge step forward

For the first time, a full 12 3-inch digital instrument display and 10 8-inch head-up display The highest available infotainment system features a 9-inch screen, navigation system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wired connectivity All these features are shared with the X-Trail

Mitsubishi also plans to offer real-time traffic information and live software updates in the near future. Meanwhile, you can specify the Outlander with a ten-speaker Bose sound system, smartphone charging without 15-watt wire, three-zone automatic climate control, heated seats and rear door sun shades USB-A and USB-C charging ports are also provided on the center console

From a safety standpoint, the Outlander comes with Mi-Pilot Assist (probably a renowned version of Nissan’s ProPilot), which combines adaptive cruise control with a stop and center of its own lane Models equipped with the navigation system can adjust the speed using traffic sign recognition and slow the car down when turning and exiting the freeway

The car is fitted with nine airbags as standard, including rear side airbags and a new front center airbag between driver and passenger. The Outlander is also equipped with Mitsubishi Connect, which adds a call function. emergency and allows remote control of various vehicle functions

The Outlander is built on the alliance’s Common Modular Platform (CMF-C / D) and uses hot-stamped ultra-high tensile steels, a first at Mitsubishi You will also find structures cyclic connected around the engine compartment and cabin, increasing torsional and bending stiffness compared to the old model The car uses multi-link suspension and double-gear electric power steering to provide improved ride comfort and handling more direct and linear

The 2 5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine No details have been revealed yet, but it should be the same PR25DD direct-injection naturally aspirated unit found in the new X-Trail, producing 184 hp at 6,000 rpm and 245 Nm of torque at 3,600 rpm

This is a bit more than the old 4-liter 2Miller, which currently produces 167 PS and 222 Nm of torque The engine is mated to a CVT with eight virtual gears and delivers a claimed 8 9% improvement in fuel efficiency on the WLTP cycle As before, the Outlander is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive

The AWD system uses Mitsubishi’s enhanced Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) technology, which automatically distributes power front to rear and to the front wheels. What’s new is that the Active Brake Yaw Control (AYC) now also works on the rear wheels and is now offered even on front wheel drive models All cars are equipped with a drive mode selector with Eco, Normal, Tarmac, Gravel, settings Snow and Mud, the latter being exclusive to all-wheel-drive variants

Mitsubishi has not revealed any details about a plug-in hybrid model, but has already promised one for April next year Expect the PHEV to showcase the Engelberg’s upgraded powertrain, which incorporates a larger 2 4-liter engine, an electric motor on each axle and a larger 20 kWh lithium-ion battery At the time, Mitsubishi was boasting a fully electric range of over 70 km and a total range of over 700 km

For now, customers in the US can purchase the Outlander starting in April, with prices starting at US $ 25,795 (RM 104,000) It will go on sale in other markets world later

Looks better than the previous generation Better proportion all around and looks quite current on the interior In my opinion, it looks better than other Asian SUV competitors Not a big fan of the big flashy chrome parts in it ‘before but this can be easily fixed

This is what we expect from Mitsu
So please come with 140k-150k range and will sell well
Cut the CRV wave this time around

The side profile looks strange …… The dynamic bumper face is just Mitsubishi’s excuse for being lazy in the front design ……

nice man would be expensive but i have 3 kids, i prefer the Van style to save space between entrances and exits to reduce my children knocking others can when open the door, huhu

Mitsu is just proving that Haval, Changan and other Chinese brands make better looking SUVs the exterior is bland the interior parts are even nastier door switches (& window buttons on side mirrors) recycled from the late 2000s model, the steering switches and other bits look cheap and flimsy the only saving grace is the diamond pattern on the leather seat and door panel covers and on the center console it’s a real mix of bag design in the whole mitsu have lost their way

Hopefully Eclipse Cross will arrive in M’sia which is suitable for small families, many fans are waiting for its arrival

The eclipse cross is dated But this is the last Mitsubishi with its own engine I would rather if they bring the delica equipped with triton diesel The current delica in Japan with blue diesel will be problematic in Asia

Idk, that looks like a facade that only a mother could love to me The interior looks chic, sure, but white seats on a utility SUV marketed for families with kids? Hmm…
