Ebene News – AU – Virgin and Qantas launch half-price flights – Travel Weekly

Australian airlines are launching low cost flights today as part of the government’s $ 1 billion push to boost Australia’s tourism industry

With tickets on sale from midnight last night, Virgin Australia, Qantas and Jetstar have slashed airline ticket prices through the end of July for travel from mid-April to the end of September

Qantas and Jetstar have published half-price fares to 15 destinations, aimed at attracting tourists to areas most affected by closed international borders, including Cairns, Townsville, Whitsunday Coast / Hamilton Island, Sunshine Coast, Darwin , Alice Springs, Hobart, Launceston, Devonport, Broome, Avalon, Merimbula, Adelaide, Kangaroo Island and the Gold Coast

Virgin will sell 260,000 economy seats at half price in nine regions and twenty-five destinations, including Queensland destinations such as the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Cairns and the Whitsundays despite developments in Brisbane

The airline will also reward loyal Platinum and Gold Velocity members who booked or traveled between December 7, 2020 and March 28, 2021, with a status extension of up to 18 months

The status extension will allow eligible members to enjoy free lounge access, priority boarding, preferential seating, higher checked baggage allowance and lucrative bonus points

Qantas has also added additional bonuses with network-wide sales known as the “Everywhere Else” sale with discounted fares to over 50 destinations on over 200 routes through April 8 for travel up to at the end of the year

“While the Brisbane lockdown has unfortunately had an impact on some Easter holiday plans, we know this is a temporary setback and the vaccine rollout will help make border restrictions an issue. a thing of the past With this sale, now is the perfect time to book your vacations and weekends for the rest of the year, ”said Andrew David, Qantas National and International CEO

“Almost all of the destinations Qantas and Jetstar serve are on sale, including plenty of chances to get half-price fares as part of the government’s tourism stimulus package

“Most of the fares are outside peak times which is when those areas need more tourists to visit This means more people will stay in hotels, go to restaurants and book visits and that also means we can get more of our employees back to work”

Speaking from Brisbane, Jayne Hrdlicka, CEO of Virgin Australia Group, said that despite the current challenges at the border, the announcement of half airfares make it hard

“While there are short-term constraints on travel to certain destinations at the moment, the good news is that our half-price tickets can be used to travel until the end of September,” Hrdlicka said.

“With the vaccine rollout underway, these half-price tariffs will support jobs and the country’s economic recovery over the next six months There has never been a better time to plan and continue traveling in Australia “
