Prince entered London’s King Edward VII private hospital on his own after feeling unwell for a short time, royal source said

Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth, 99, was admitted to hospital on Tuesday as a precautionary measure after feeling ill with an illness unrelated to COVID-19

The prince, whose official title is The Duke of Edinburgh, entered London’s King Edward VII private hospital unaided after feeling ill for a short time, a royal source said

The Queen, 94, remains at Windsor Castle near London, where the couple stayed during Britain’s coronavirus pandemic.The two received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in January

“The Duke’s admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness doctor after illness,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement

“The Duke should stay in the hospital for a few days of observation and rest”

A royal source said Philip did not have an illness linked to COVID-19 and it was not an emergency

Within an hour of arriving, film crews and photographers from Britain, Australia, France and Germany had gathered outside the hospital where police were on guard

“Really sorry to hear His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh is in hospital,” said UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock “Sending him my best wishes for a speedy recovery”
