“More than ever, it is essential that we all complete the census The 2021 census will help us better understand the impacts of the pandemic on different population groups and communities across the country and ensure that we have good data to plan for post-pandemic recovery and beyond

We have taken all necessary steps to conduct a safe census that will allow Canadians to tell their stories and provide vital information that contributes to the strength of our country and our communities. It is important that everyone is included in the changing portrait of our nation “

Census questionnaires are assigned by household and the population census enumerates the entire Canadian population. This includes Canadian citizens (by birth or naturalization), landed immigrants, asylum seekers (eg, asylum seekers), Canadian Foreign Service officers, members of the Canadian Armed Forces posted abroad and persons holding a work or study permit

Canadians have relied on census data to tell us how our country is changing and what matters to us We all depend on key socioeconomic trends and census analysis to make important decisions that affect our families, our neighborhoods and our businesses

Data from the 2016 census played a key role in understanding and responding to the impacts of COVID-19 Federal and provincial governments use local data on population, age, income and housing to determine who is most vulnerable to the current health and economic crisis In addition, vaccine allocations have been made per capita based on census data

Statistics Canada has adapted the collection process to ensure that all Canadians and our employees remain safe while participating in this vital national exercise The data collected as part of the 2021 census will inform many of the policy decisions in economic and health issues that will have to be taken up by all levels of government in the months and years to come, as the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the lives of Canadians

Statistics Canada will do everything in its power to encourage Canadians to complete the census without the in-person visit of a census employee Completing the census questionnaire online is the best and easiest way to complete census obligation We expect the vast majority of Canadians to complete the questionnaire through our efficient, secure and user-friendly online application Respondents without reliable Internet access can also call the Census Help Line at 1-855-340-2021, to complete their census questionnaire over the phone or request a paper questionnaire

In the current context of COVID-19, agricultural census data is essential for understanding the impacts of the crisis on the farming community, including the supply chain and trade disruptions, and food security

Census of Agriculture data provides Canadians with critical and accurate statistical information to manage federal and provincial government spending in support of the agriculture sector, including natural disaster programs and compensation and disease outbreaks, setting payment ceilings for programs, performance reporting and food safety issues

People are hired to be part of this large-scale national project in communities large and small to collect crucial data that will be used to plan for the future Supervision and non-supervision opportunities are always available in a number of communities
