Three police officers were taken to hospital with injuries after an incident in downtown Hamilton, Ont., On Tuesday afternoon
Hamilton Police said they were called to the James Street North and Cannon Street East area after reports of a person in crisis around 3:20 p.m.m
Investigators said officers encountered a man who was behaving irregularly and was in possession of a gun
Three policemen, who are now in stable condition, were taken to hospital and all suffered stab wounds in the neck and head, police said.
The man has been arrested and charged with three counts of assault with a weapon. He is currently receiving medical treatment in hospital for unspecified injuries
Footage from Tuesday’s scene showed a Taser on the ground with its pins deployed, but police did not say whether officers used the weapon in an attempt to subdue the suspect
Hamilton Police said they are investigating and asking witnesses and anyone with video footage of the incident to come forward
“We are appealing to the public especially in these circumstances,” Hamilton Police spokeswoman Krista-Lee Ernst told reporters at the scene.
“Anyone who was a witness who may have been there and local businesses if they had CCTV and their business may have been closed, we ask if they could look it up for evidence and please contact Hamilton Police “
