Ebene News – CA – Trump attacks “tough” leader Mitch McConnell

“Mitch is an austere, brooding, smileless political hacker,” said Mr. Trump, “and if Republican senators are going to stick with him, they won’t win anymore”

His statement comes after Mr. McConnell said former president was “morally responsible” for the US Capitol riots

The exchange revealed an apparent rift between the two over the future of the Republican Party

The majority of Republican senators supported M Trump in his impeachment trial last week, including M McConnell who voted for acquittal

But in a speech in the Senate, Mr. McConnell hinted that the former president would face criminal and civil prosecution because he was “still responsible for everything he did during his tenure”

He stated that the actions of M Trump before January 6 riots were “a shameful dereliction of duty”

The feud has raised concerns among some Republicans about the impact it could have on next year’s midterm elections The party is trying to regroup after losing the House, Senate and presidency

M Trump responded on Tuesday with his longest statement since leaving office a month ago

“The Republican Party can never again be respected or strong with political ‘leaders’ like Senator Mitch McConnell at its head,” the press release reads

The “lack of political insight, wisdom, skill and personality” of Mr. McConnell cost Republicans control of the Senate after last November’s election, he said

Two hotly contested ballots in Georgia saw Republicans lose both seats to Democrats, resulting in a 50-to-50 split in the Senate This leaves Democrats in control as Vice President Kamala Harris has the casting vote in the event of a tie

M Trump has also targeted Mr. McConnell to stand in the way of future candidates backed by Trump

The former president has said he will support key Republican challengers who “espouse Making America Great Again and our America First policy”

M McConnell “will never do what needs to be done or what is right for our country,” said M Trump

Politico reported that an early draft was even more personal, with a source telling the site that Mr. McConnell had “too many chins but not enough intelligence”

Donald Trump’s Twitter ban may mean he’s lost his favorite way to launch attacks on opponents, but his latest press release on Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell shows that he has not lost his bite

There’s a lot of abuse in the former president’s eight-paragraph rant, but the line that will give Republicans the most heartburn is towards the end, when he says he’ll support the mainstream challenges against members of his own party “if necessary and appropriate”

It is telling that while M Trump is preparing to enter fray after his impeachment trial, he does so with an attack on his own party, not the Democrats

Trump could possibly target Joe Biden and the left, but the political war that seems most interested in Trump at the moment is internal in nature

This changed, however, after M Trump lost the presidential election M McConnell said he had not spoken to M Trump since mid-December

The rift between them was exacerbated after the Capitol riots, which resulted in the deaths of five people including a police officer

M Trump, who was impeached by the House of Representatives for violence, was acquitted by the Senate for inciting insurgency

Only seven Republicans joined Democrats in voting to condemn Mr. Trump M McConnell and 42 other Republicans voted for acquittal

Despite the acquittal vote, Mr. McConnell excoriated former Senate speaker after vote

“There is no doubt, no, that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for bringing about the events of the day,” he said

“A mob attacked the Capitol in his name”, he added “These criminals carried his banners, hung his flags and shouted their loyalty to him”

The relation between M Trump and M McConnell isn’t the only one to have deteriorated over the past month

Tuesday, a counselor from M Trump says former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani has stopped doing legal work for the former president

M Giuliani “does not currently represent President Trump in any legal matters,” Jason Miller told CNN

M Trump allegedly tried to stop paying Mr. Giuliani in a fit of irritation at being impeached a second time, US media reported in January

But M Miller clarified on Twitter after the interview that M Giuliani remained “an ally and a friend”
