Somehow we are already in April â ???? a little hard to believe but not that surprising considering everything that is happening in our great region

Of course, we come to the Easter long weekend; chocolate and family time with just a tinge of COVID as it has become the relative norm these days

While it’s great news that Easter is ready, it’s important that we all are as a community â ???? follow the latest advice and in Mackay is to keep masks nearby and wear them when needed

Like you, here at The Daily Mercury, we’re listening to the latest updates on the statewide COVID situation and how it applies to Mackay and the surrounding region

Our reporters will be working throughout the weekend to bring you the latest news so you can be kept up to date wherever you are As always, keep an eye on your inbox, our Facebook page or our website

For readers who appreciate our digital edition, a little reminder that there won’t be any tomorrow for Good Friday

But rest assured a snapshot of the latest news will be curated and published in the digital edition on Saturday morning

I got an email from a reader this week asking for letters to the editor and if we still publish them The answer is most definitely yes

We appreciate what you have to say and I’m sure there are a lot of people out there who want to hear your take on things in your patch, so keep sending them out We post letters to editors when they arrive, so the more we get, the more we can post

And submitting them has never been easier – ???? online via website here or email mackay @ newscomau or direct to myself or editor Rae Wilson

We are especially keen to hear people talk about our Hub for our Heroes campaign and what you think should be included as part of the Mackay RSL’s stimulus plans and the development of a good retirement. -being at Kinchant Dam for our veterans

Journalist Heidi Petith delivered hard-hitting stories from veterans, their families and organizations on why we need to support those who served on the front lines – ???? either as soldiers for their country or as first responders for their communities

Australia’s oldest Victoria Cross recipient Keith Payne and his family have shared their story, and the veterans center has the support of one of Australia’s most decorated in Sir Peter Cosgrove Catch up on the stories here

RSL’s rebirth is part of ReNew Mackay’s plan to transform Mackay’s waterfront, and acclaimed singer Toni Childs will be in Mackay on May 2 for a benefit concert to support PTSD Frontline and its mission for Kinchant Waters

These are all things the community should support, and we will continue to campaign for this very worthy project
