As Norwich City travel to St Andrew’s for tonight’s Sky Bet Championship match against Coventry, we look back on an exciting end to 2010

Grant Holt’s double was the difference in securing the Canaries’ victory in this league match just over ten years ago!

Their first season back in the league after being promoted from League One, Norwich was off to a good start as they returned to second place, scoring 32 points heading into this game against the Sky Blues

Despite having just been promoted back to the league, talks of a promotion to the Premier League were on the lips of those who have followed the Canaries’ fortunes after such a positive start to the season

The same could be said for Coventry, which was in its tenth consecutive league football season making good progress in their campaign, the Sky Blues were instead in fifth place heading into this game, looking for a place for the dams to finally see the promotion

Despite the lack of goals, the first half was eventful thanks to decisions officials Coventry felt they had a penalty on hand from the start when Michael Nelson appeared to knock Marlon King into the box , but the referee canceled all appeals

The hosts didn’t complain later in the first half when midfielder Aron Gunnarsson received the red card for his two-foot challenge on Henri Lansbury, leaving the Sky Blues with ten men for 55 minutes following

City legend Holt quickly capitalized on the man-for-men advantage in the 65th minute, securing a firm nod to a cross at the far post to find game one and seeing Coventry concede for the first times in five games

King got his goal quickly, despite the referee’s refusal of his previous penalty appeal, leveling the scores nine minutes later, passing John Ruddy one

However, an unmarked Holt quickly found his brace in the 87th minute, turning and shooting into a crowded 18-yard area after a City corner kick.

90th-minute substitute Freddy Eastwood nearly made his impact in the final minutes, tugging at the woodwork inside the timeout

Surviving the attacker’s near-leveler, City held the final whistle to bring all three points from the Ricoh Arena back to Carrow Road

City XI: Ruddy, Ward, Nelson, Martin, Fox, Lanisbury, Lappin, Smith (Askou, 90), Holt, Jackson (Hoolahan, 67) (McNamee, 81), MartinSubs not used: Rudd, Habergham, Tudur -Jones, Johnson

The end of the season marked back-to-back promotions for City, who finished second in the championship to secure automatic promotion to the top of the pecking order

A difficult second half of the season saw Coventry’s form falter, finishing 18th after early play-off hopes
