Ebene News – GB – Death in Paradise Series 11 Interview: What’s next for Neville and Florence?

Last night we saw the closing episode of Series 10 of Death in Paradise In a series that marked 10 years since the show first aired, viewers watched DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little) overcome enormous challenges, face his fears and step out of his comfort zone to embrace island life

In addition to Neville’s development throughout the series, the arc also saw him grow feelings for fellow DS Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert), and in the closing scenes of last night’s episode. , Neville decided to take the ultimate leap from his comfort zone and tell Florence what he thought of her

Viewers were on fire watching Neville trying to find the words to tell Florence he loved her, but by the time he was about to speak, the credits rolled out, meaning viewers will have to wait for the next series to find out what happened next Fortunately, Metrocouk has already spoken to executive producer of the series Tim Key, where he teased us with what’s to come

“All I can tell you is that when the show returns viewers will know absolutely what happens next, and when it returns we’ll let everyone know. In situations like Neville and Florence it’s very difficult, if you bring people together it can be the end of a partnership in dramatic terms, but at the same time you can’t stretch it too long because the audience is frustrated We have a really cool plan, we know where it’s going and the audience will be very happy with it, there’s a story to tell and I think we needed some time to tell it

“We’re a little devilishly addicted to how addicted we are, but just because we don’t know where the story is going, we don’t know exactly where it is going and that’s really cool”

Tim appreciated the growing public liking Neville, as well as the plans to explore his character further and find out more about him

“We haven’t met Neville’s mom on the show yet and maybe we will, maybe we won’t,” he continued. “I love the idea in my head that she’s not the bossy kind of comedy mom, she’s just someone who wanted the best for her son and everything they tried didn’t worked This is really sad You are hoping the audience will see beyond the character shell and become intrigued by them and wonder what makes them tick and wonder what their secret really is For me it seems to have happened this year there were some lovely warm moments with Neville and there were a few glimpses of his life and history, we learned that he had a girlfriend and he lived with her for a few years which didn’t may not be the case What you might expect from Neville, but he’s clearly had a life, there’s just a little more depth to him and that’s what the audience warmed up to and responded to, I’m very happy that they kissed him more

‘I think it’s heartwarming to be able to play the character and the story a little more in depth, that’s when audiences start to fall in love with him because he’s thinking,’ Oh, we’re not just making a cheap gag Here is a guy who has issues he’s been living with his whole life “

‘We talked a lot about his upbringing and his family, and we have ideas of things we can play in the next series as well, the idea that he has to live on the fringes and watch because his friends and his family went on with their lives and he wasn’t able and not out of cowardice on his part, just that every time he takes a step forward, something has slightly disappointed him “

In the ninth series, the thought of changing his routine and not completing his rituals got him ‘out of control’, but this series, we have seen him face his fears like never before

“I think it’s always difficult to bring a new track to a show,” Tim explained “I think audiences get to know and love the previous person and there’s always a kind of contraction when the news begins

‘We all have to find the character together, we knew who Neville was meant to be, when we knew Ralf was playing the character we knew what that meant, it takes audiences a while to get to know him and we always felt very clear on what we wanted to do with Neville

‘I don’t mean it in a jaded way, but we were hoping audiences would know about him, he would take him to heart, he has character elements that we’ve seen before, there’s a slight Richard Poole to his subject, but at the same time he is his own person and his challenges are very different from those of others

‘I think when you create a character to be on a show like ours, you can’t just happily make him exist in his own environment, he has to be challenged and he has to be kind of broken in. some way and need healing, and all these senior detectives were broken in a way “

According to Tim, everything went according to plan regarding Ralf’s smooth arrival in Death In Paradise

“I can honestly say it all came out creatively as we hoped,” he said “We didn’t compromise on anything, the series that came out is exactly the series that we decided to shoot

“The response was a real joy and a privilege to be associated, we felt that everything we were hoping for had happened, the audience really enjoyed it, I am very happy with how everything happened “
