Ebene News – GB – Dolan hopes a new technique will be told to Ally Pally

Brendan Dolan wants to “prove himself” on the big stage once again as he kicks off his World Darts Championship campaign this afternoon

The man from Fermanagh, ranked 30th in the world, faces Japan’s Edward Foulkes, who claimed an impressive 3-0 first-round victory over Mike De Decker, in his first appearance at Alexandra Palace

Dolan reached the quarter-finals two years ago, but fell to the first hurdle last year and is hoping a new throwing technique will help him increase his score

“I tried to change the pace and delivery of my first dart,” the 47-year-old told RTÉ Sport

“I feel that when I hold the dart in front of my face my shoulder sometimes drops and obviously I land low and I leave the hard spot to score, so I try to throw the first dart a little faster but with a rhythm to obtain consistency in delivery

“But sometimes it’s hard to break old habits. I find overall I’m playing a lot better and I feel my goal power will be a lot stronger this year

The winner of today’s opener in the afternoon session in London will meet tournament second seed Gerwyn Price, who beat Jamie Lewis 3-2 last night

Carlow’s Steve Lennon is also in action today, the World Cup finalist takes on South African Devon Petersen, 29th on the PDC order of merit, in the second game of the evening session
