Law firm celebrating its 200th anniversary has planned to perform as many random acts of kindness as possible to give something back to the community
Birkett Long’s 200 years of experience has taught the firm that it’s not just about knowing the law, but also its impact on residents, employees and clients.
So the firm, which has offices in Colchester, Chelmsford and Basildon, takes inspiration from Random Acts of Kindness Day, which is being held today, to conduct as many thoughtful acts as possible throughout 2021.
The first act will be sending calm kits to staff working for the SinglePoint service at St Helena Hospice – a helpline that coordinates care for people in North Essex who may be in their last year of life.
In 1986, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, officially opened the St Helena Hospice, with Christopher Holmes, the late senior partner of the company, by her side
Supporting charities in Essex has been a priority for the company over the decades
In addition to charitable initiatives, staff will be encouraged to perform individual acts of kindness throughout the year
If they have encountered a helpful receptionist or if a supplier has gone the extra mile, they will be able to recognize them with a little surprise, whether it is a bouquet of flowers or a voucher for a coffee A customer could receive a cake from one of the team members on their birthday or a home warming gift after their purchase is made
The company also plans to donate time, so some staff can help residents garden and paint.
Over the next year, the company will take a trip down memory lane and examine its heritage and plan for the future.
Martin Hopkins, Managing Partner, said: “The past year has been so tough for a lot of them and the year ahead can be tough too. We care for our clients, for each other and for our communities and hope to make a difference during this time. I am proud to be a part of Birkett Long and all that we have accomplished in celebrating this 200 year milestone. ”
