While New Years Eve is a very different occasion for everyone across the country tonight, you can still count on some traditions that remain the same, including the broadcast of Jools Hollands’ Hootenanny

His infamous Musical Night returns for the 27th year so people can count until midnight

The show, which was pre-taped earlier in December, will air from 1115h on BBC Two, tonight, December 31

This year, Jools and his orchestra join Celeste, Sir Tom Jones, Michael Kiwanuka, Roisin Murphy, Rick Wakeman, Ruby Turner, Chris Difford and the Pipes and Drums of the 1st Batallion Scots Guards in the studio

2020 Mercury Prize winner Michael Kiwanuka performs song from his award-winning self-titled album and covers a song written by his idol Bill Withers

Jools also looks back at some of the incredible Hootenanny performances from the archives, including Jamiroquai, Rudimental and Ella Eyre, Madness, ABC and Aloe Blacc

Tomorrow, January 1, on BBC Two, you can catch up with previous years with Jools’ best annual Hootenanny songs at 1045h

This year, Hootenanny will likely be set up slightly differently due to the coronavirus pandemic, warm conversations with opposing piano music legends, and audiences likely won’t be shouting Auld Lang Syne at the midnight strike

In fact, chanter-a-longs will not be on the cards at all as there was actually no audience present at the recording due to safety guidelines
