Kyril Louis-Dreyfus became president of Sunderland at the age of 23 after the approval of his takeover by the English Football League
The Frenchman is the son of former Marseille owner Robert Louis-Dreyfus and becomes the youngest president of English football
“His vision and desire to bring success back to Sunderland was evident from the start and his candidacy is one that we believe gives the club the best chance for success and long term sustainability”
A deal was made for Louis-Dreyfus to buy a majority stake in Sunderland in December, but the League One club had to wait for the EFL to give the deal the green light
It ends an extended sale by former Eastleigh owner Donald, who became the club’s majority shareholder when he bought the Black Cats from Ellis Short in May 2018
Donald had been trying to sell the Black Cats for over a year and stepped down as president in July
Louis-Dreyfus acknowledged that there were “challenges to overcome” due to the “current football landscape” but said there was cause for optimism
“I am proud to become the guardian of this prestigious institution, but I also recognize the important responsibility that comes with it,” he said.
“I am convinced that together we can weather the current storm and lay a solid foundation to bring lasting and long-term success to the club”
Charlie Methven and Juan Sartori will also retain a minority stake alongside Donald who said the club are now debt free
Sunderland is seventh in Ligue 1, one point out of the play-offs, and reached the Papa John’s Trophy final on Wednesday with a penalty shootout victory over Lincoln
