Ryan Shawcross set to team up with Phil Neville at Inter Miami after agreeing to mutually terminate his contract at Stoke; Shawcross has made more than 400 appearances in 14 years for the club; the new MLS season starts in April
Ryan Shawcross left Stoke after 14 years at the club, after seeing his contract terminated by mutual consent before a planned transfer to Inter Miami from Phil Neville to MLS
The 33-year-old, who has made over 400 appearances for the Potters, leaves bet365 stadium before his contract expires this summer
Shawcross decided to cancel his contract early in order to team up with Miami ahead of the 2021 MLS opener on April 3
“Ryan’s contribution to the club over the past 14 years simply cannot be overstated. His exceptional leadership and the consistency of his displays have made him a talismanic figure for us,” said Stoke General Manager , Tony Scholes, in a statement
After 14 years of exceptional service with Stoke City we can confirm that Ryan Shawcross has left ClubRyan and his family will always be welcome at bet365 Stadium and he leaves with best wishes from everyone at Club # SCFC 🔴⚪️
“He feels that now is the time to explore new opportunities and leaves with our best wishes I would like to take this opportunity to wish Ryan, his wife Kath and their family every success for the future – they will always be welcome at the bet365 stadium”
Shawcross joined the Manchester United Potters in 2007, under a loan deal that initially became permanent in January 2008
Just a few months later, Stoke was celebrating his promotion to the Premier League and Shawcross wasted little time to establish himself as a key figure as the club shattered expectations by retaining their top status
He was named club captain at the start of the 2010/11 season, which would lead to him leading Stoke to Wembley in the FA Cup final against Manchester City
“It’s very rare these days for a player to stay at a club for 14 years; I’m sure Ryan has had the opportunity to go elsewhere over the years, but he clearly felt settled down and valued here, “Michael O ‘, Stoke Neill manager added
“He hasn’t appeared as often as he would have liked over the past two years, but his professionalism and the way he has conducted himself, both on the training ground and around of the club, since I joined the club just cannot be questioned “
