Ebene News – GB – Ryan Shawcross leaves Stoke by mutual consent to end 14-year period with the club

Ryan Shawcross had his Stoke contract terminated by mutual consent to end his 14 years with the club

The 33-year-old has made over 400 appearances for the Potters – most as captain – after joining Manchester United in 2007

In a club statement, Stoke said Shawcross had left “to allow him to seize new playing opportunities in the United States”

Stoke general manager Tony Scholes told the club’s official website: “Ryan’s contribution to the club over the past 14 years simply cannot be underestimated. His exceptional leadership and consistency of his displays have made him a talismanic figure for us

“He was an exceptional role model, both on and off the pitch, and the way he applied himself to training and games embodied the town of Stoke-on-Trent – hardworking, committed and faithful

“He thinks the time has come to explore new opportunities and leaves with our best wishes. I would like to take this opportunity to wish Ryan, his wife Kath and their family every success for the future – they will always be welcome at the bet365 stadium”

Stoke was promoted to the Premier League in Shawcross’s first season at the club and he was a key part of Tony Pulis’ squad who established themselves in the top flight

After being named club captain in 2010, Shawcross led his team to the 2011 FA Cup final, where they were beaten by Manchester City

Stoke manager Michael O’Neill added: “Before coming to Stoke City, the only player you immediately associated with the club during the conversation was Ryan, simply because of the time he has. passed here

“It’s very rare these days for a player to stay at a club for 14 years; I’m sure Ryan has had the opportunity to go elsewhere over the years, but he clearly felt settled and appreciated here

“He hasn’t appeared as often as he would have liked over the past two years, but his professionalism and the way he has conducted himself, both on the training ground and around of the club, since I joined the club just cannot be questioned”
