52 lives a charity, in partnership with GalaBingocom, has succeeded in increasing its support to vital causes despite the pandemic

More and more people have wanted to do a good deed since the start of the pandemic, a UK charity said

Jaime Thurston, founder of 52 Lives, the charity that uses kindness to change people’s lives every week, has seen a significant increase in donations as a result of the lockdowns, allowing the charity to ‘helping more people across the country

The charity, in partnership with GalaBingocom, has succeeded in increasing its support for vital causes, in particular retirement homes for the elderly and in organizing free virtual caring workshops for young children

Ms Thurston said: “We expected donations to decline during this time as we know it is a tough time for everyone, but so far we have actually seen the opposite The number of our supporters has grown, more and more people donate every week and more and more people are reaching out to ask what they can do to help

“We have seen more cuteness emerge than ever before People are naturally kind and in times of crisis we come together and want to help each other”

The founder of the charity listed eight tasks that could help others mark Random Acts of Kindness Day on February 17

If you go out and see a supermarket worker, healthcare worker, or any other key worker, tell them they are doing a good job. These are essential people putting themselves at risk to keep the country going – the ultimate show of kindness This might make their day to tell them how grateful you are

One of the key things we are doing right now is working with those who are struggling alone in their isolation, which most often is the elderly. We have sent care packages to hundreds of elderly people across the UK to put a smile on their face

If you have someone in your life struggling on their own, give them a quick call or text them to let them know you are thinking of them

Doing something you don’t usually do for your roommate, like hanging up their laundry if they’re busy or cooking something special for your partner, is a fun thing to do and costs your time.

Not everyone has enough to share, but if you do, a great way to help others is to donate to a good cause And while donating to the NHS is fantastic, it’s important to remember some of the smaller charities, which may be really struggling right now

You can also donate your time to a charity, supporting a good cause through volunteering can be just as valuable as a cash donation

We are all a lot more at home than we usually would be and we may think that we spend more time with our families. However, with work, TV and social media we are always busy and maybe not be fully present at home

You don’t have to suffer in silence if you have mental health issues Here are some groups you can contact when you need help:

Depression Alliance: a charity for people with depression No helpdesk but offers useful resources and links to other information on its website

Students Against Depression: website for depressed, moody or suicidal students Click here to visit

Campaign Against Miserable Life (CALM): for young men who feel miserable Has a website here and a helpline: 0800 58 58 58

To become more present, move away from your screens and give your loved ones full attention Try doing activities together that don’t involve technology, such as a jigsaw, a pastry or a walk Focus on continuing to have a good time together even if you spend more hours in the company of each other

By being kind to others, you will attract kindness in return Accept the kindness of your loved ones, either by picking up the phone or accepting their offer to get you the essentials in stores They will feel happy with you having helped in one way or another and the exchange of kind deeds will develop and maintain a deeper connection with that person

Not only is smiling healthy because it relieves stress and makes us feel good, it is also contagious Smiling at someone is likely to trigger a smile and will make you both happy

Smiling also makes you seem more approachable and might start a much-needed conversation for someone outside. A short, social-distancing conversation with someone you meet in a park or on a walk can do a huge difference in a person’s day

One of the nicest things people can continue to do is keep their distance from each other Although it’s not easy not being able to see family and friends like before, it is important to remember that everyone’s health should be the number one priority

52 Lives has seen donations and fan numbers increase dramatically during the pandemic, as UK unites to help each other in current crisis The organization has increased support for a variety of vital causes , especially nursing homes for the elderly and those struggling with self-isolation Here are some of the causes it has helped
