AUSTRALIA’s Immigration Minister condemned Christmas Day revelers who ignored coronavirus rules and partied in a ‘mass rave’ on a Sydney beach

UK backpackers could even be kicked out after breaking rules to attend the party at Bronte Beach on December 25

Some of the revelers are said to be British nationals who had traveled to Australia before the pandemic and stayed there on 12-month visas after the country was shut down

But Immigration Minister Alex Hawke issued a stern warning to those present, telling Sky News: “You have to obey orders and if you don’t you will be likely to cancel your visa if you are a temporary visa holder “

He described how he was “shocked” by people “blatantly ignoring public health orders” after at least 300 people attended the beach party

This has sparked outrage in New South Wales which has recorded nearly 150 locally transmitted cases in the past fortnight

The NSW state government has announced that households will now be limited to just five people from Thursday, instead of the previous 10-person limit

Outdoor gatherings have also been reduced from 50 to 30 people, as all other states maintain a travel ban for people from Sydney

This is a high level of contagion for Australia, which has managed lower infection rates throughout the pandemic, compared to other countries

Three women in east Melbourne have tested positive for the virus, which health officials believe is linked to cases in New South Wales

To end the two-month streak of zero locally acquired cases, the women – two in their 40s and one in their 60s – and more than 40 people they had been in contact with were isolating themselves at home

Shocking social media posts show hundreds of unmasked revelers sandwiched together wearing festive Christmas hats

British hiker Elisha Palfrey shared with her friends a photo of the celebrations which her father Mike Palfrey said was part of a “bubble”

The party reportedly got out of control with more and more people present, before a riot squad was deployed to shut it down

Most of them have moved peacefully, with the exception of a 25-year-old man who refused to leave, who will face court in 2021

New Zealand backpacker Tarik Kent told the Daily Mail the revelers were “mostly British and Irish”

He explained how “the music played and people got drunk” then “more and more people showed up by the minute”

New South Wales Health Minister Brad Hazzard called the behavior “absolutely appalling” and hinted that it could be a “very widespread occurrence”

“The inhabitants of the northern beaches have done their part to ensure the safety not only of themselves, but of the rest of Sydney as well

“It is absolutely appalling to see what was clearly a bunch of people, a large gathering of people, who didn’t give a damn about the rest of Sydney

“If they were in Europe right now, most of them would be locked up and wouldn’t even be allowed out the front door,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald. p>
