Ladbaby Christmas Song 2020: Could’ Don’t Stop Me Eatin ‘Get Christmas Number 1 – and Who’s the YouTube Star?
Mackenzie Crook – known for The Office, Pirates Of The Caribbean, and The Detectorists – is back as lovable scarecrow Worzel Gummidge this Christmas
Last year, we saw two unique films following Gummidge’s crazy adventures, and now a new movie, Saucy Nancy, promises to be another family favorite this festive season
Crook said: “I am so excited and grateful to do a new episode of Worzel Gummidge after a difficult year for everyone We come out of Scatterbrook for this story, for a day trip by the sea, some fresh air and a large open space “
The new episode will see the walking and talking scarecrow stumble upon a rude old friend; a sculpted figurehead of the ship called Saucy Nancy
According to the BBC synopsis, Nancy “languishes, has been unsold in the yard for years and longs to return to the sea
“Worzel and the children promise to get him there, but will his ship be waiting for him? Worzel doubts that, but Nancy is convinced She can feel it in her sculptures
“The adventure unfolds, as the strange quartet heads for the coast on foot, by bus, wheelbarrow, motorbike and sidecar. It was never going to be easy”
The rare trip out of Scatterbrook will see Gummidge encounter wild moors and the white seashell cliffs, and the episode will honor Barbara Windsor, who played Saucy Nancy in the 1980s original
The Maidstone-born actor and father of two is again not only responsible for writing the special episodes – which are based on a series of books by English novelist Barbara Euphan Todd – but also directing them and play the main role
Shirley Henderson, a Scottish actress known for her movie roles including Gail in Trainspotting, Jude in all three Bridget Jones films and Moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter, plays Saucy Nancy
Alongside Crook and Henderson, India Brown (The Stranger) will return as Susan and Thierry Wickens as John, while Vanessa Redgrave (Call the Midwife) will play Peg
Also in the cast, Steve Pemberton (Inside No 9) and Rosie Cavaliero (Hold the Sunset) return as M and Mrs. Braithwaite
Filming for Saucy Nancy was due to take place earlier in 2020, but was delayed by the Covid-19 crisis
“We were all getting ready to start prepping when the lockdown occurred,” said Crook, who also revealed the plan was to do two episodes of Worzel Gummidge this year and two next year.
“Over time, we decided not to try to do two, and to do this year’s one
“It was a great relief to get up there and do an episode, because sometimes it seemed like we weren’t going to be able to do that and it would’ve been a two year wait for people to see it a another episode, which would have been a huge time for the kids “
Shane Allen, Comedy Command Controller for the BBC, said: “What is Mackenzie and the shows taking place in a field?
“In the wake of last year’s bucolic eco-fables, we find Worzel in playful form dispensing his sunny wit and wisdom in another heartwarming tale”
