Barcelona’s last game in 2020 was a reflection of this entire year for the Catalan giants: wasted opportunities, wasted talent and poor defense as the Blaugrana drew 1-1 with Eibar at Camp Nou Barca played well without Lionel Messi, but missed opportunities and a terrible mistake at the back cost Barca two big points at home

Barca played pretty well in the first half hour of the first half considering the absences, with very nice passing patterns and good movement in the final third, with the two full-backs constantly overlapping and the first three seeking each other to create chances

The Blaugrana had a big chance just seven minutes later when Ronald Araujo was shot in the box, but Martin Braithwaite missed the penalty Braithwaite apparently redeemed himself 20 minutes later after finishing an excellent Junior cross Firpo, but the goal was called off after VAR spotted an offside by Braithwaite

Barca struggled to create good chances in the last 15 minutes thanks to a nice defensive structure from a strong Eibar side, and at half-time the game was scoreless, although the home team were playing well and deserved a lead

Despite Barca’s solid first half, Ronald Koeman made a daring half-time challenge as Ousmane Dembélé replaced Sergiño Dest on the right side of the squad, and the Frenchman was on fire for start the second half, bringing his speed and creativity wreaking havoc on the left with shots, smart runs and dangerous crosses

As Barca looked set to finally take the lead, a terrible mistake from Araujo put Kike García all alone on goal, and the Eibar striker showed his cool in front of Ter Stegen and gave the visitors a shocking advance

Koeman made two more changes with the arrival of Philippe Coutinho and Francisco Trincão, and the two immediately created a nice movement to the left which found Firpo all alone and the center of the back gave a tap- in to Dembélé and Barça was back company 25 minutes from the end

Barca continued to put the pressure on but over time the creativity turned hopeless and it was difficult to find clear chances against a well-organized Eibar defense Closest Barca came on a shot from Trincão which went just wide in stoppage time, but no winner was scored and the final whistle came

Barca lose two points again at home in a game they should have won, and a chance to put pressure on teams above them wasted Consistent inconsistency
