Ebene News – UA – IPL 2021 auction: what to watch out for

A total of 292 players were enlisted for the shortened auctions, 164 of them Indian and 125 overseas

Flaming Australian Glenn Maxwell is expected to be a favorite, despite his record, with England’s all-round spin bowling player Moeen Ali in a condensed auction of Indian Premier League (IPL) players scheduled for Chennai Thursday A total of 292 players were enlisted for the Shortened Auctions 164 of them Indian and 125 overseas There will also be three players associated with the auction

With 61 spots in eight franchises up for grabs, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has the maximum of 11 vacancies to fill with a purse of Rs 354 crore while Sunrisers Hyderabad only has three spots available on a budget from Rs 1075 crore The highest budget available is with Anil Kumble trainer of “ Punjab Kings ”, formerly Kings XI Punjab, who has Rs 5,320 crore available to spend on nine spots

With the IPL returning to India after taking place in the UAE last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the focus will be on the big hitters as well as slow bowlers and Maxwell and Moeen However, Maxwell is averaging 22 in the tournament, having played 82 games in his 1,505 runs. He last played for Punjab Moeen, on the other hand, was seen in action for Royal Challengers Bangalore the previous season.

While Maxwell and his former skipper Steve Smith are both in the highest bidding category at Rs 2 crore, one name that will surely grab attention is No1 T20 rated drummer Dawid Malan of England

A strike rate of nearly 150 out of 19 T20 internationals has propelled Malan into the limelight and a few teams may wish to increase their bids for the 33-year-old with a base price of Rs 15 crore one of the most-watched teams at the auction will be Chennai Super Kings after a nightmarish 2020 season where they failed to qualify for the IPL play-offs for the first time in tournament history

Mahendra Singh Dhoni and head coach Stephen Fleming have always valued the experience far more than the exuberance of the youngsters on their team.A prime example is Robin Uthappa, who has not played for at least five seasons, chosen by CSK of Rajasthan Royals during negotiation window with all-cash deal

“Find out what kind of players Dhoni chooses They’re always senior mid-level men who have experience handling pressure situations No matter how the guy is viewed as a brotherhood player The only time where his expectations didn’t match was with Kedar Jadhav Or, he likes a little seniority and those who are aware of the game, “a source close to the franchise told PTI on condition of anonymity.

So with almost Rs 20 crore (1990 crore) to spend and six vacancies to fill, Dhoni will be looking at some potential heavy hitters to help him, Suresh Raina and Faf du Plessis in the middle

Since the IPL will be held in India, Maxwell, despite his underperforming stats, could be picked for his skills as a tight bowler out of the cut on slower lanes

In Malan’s case, Kings XI Punjab could walk away with him given their purse and the lack of consistent firepower at the top of the order.

The only part that is questionable about Malan is how good he is when it comes to playing slow bowlers in Indian conditions

Among Indian players, the three notable names are Kedar Jadhav, veteran non-spinner Harbhajn Singh and fast pitcher Umesh Yadav

The auction dynamics, when it comes to Indian players, was very different from foreign players due to the limited number of slots available (8) in each team

For example, a Yuvraj Singh or a Jaydev Unadkat, despite disappointing performances season after season, got bank-breaking offers simply because they are Indian players with specific skills

This is the reason why Sunrisers Hyderabad or a Rajasthan Royals will not hesitate to have a Umesh on board due to its experience at the highest level

Likewise, Kedar and Harbhajan, with high-end base prices, may be unsold in the first batch but they will likely be picked up in the last hour after the franchises set up teams

Same goes for Steve Smith, among those with the highest base price but not the highest strike rate for a top-notch batsman, may not find too many bidders unless that a franchise is looking for a suitable captain candidate

As usual there would be some mind blowing deals for uncapped domestic players like Mohammed Azharuddeen (Junior) from Kerala, handsome hulk from Tamil Nadu Shah Rukh Khan, versatile R Sonu Yadav, Vishnu Solanki from Baroda and Akash Deep from Bengal They could invite mini auction wars with their lowest base price range of Rs 20 lakh

Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun, a fast left arm pitcher who made his debut for the Mumbai senior squad this year, is framed in the Rs 20 lakh category and the kind of traction the young child brings could mean that some bidders will be there for him

Mumbai Indians (1535 crore) and Delhi Capitals (Rs 1340 crore) will require seven and eight players respectively but last year’s finalists likely have a stable core and may consider improvising during the auction

It may well be the case to buy back a few players from the auction as needed
