Last-minute New Year’s Eve restrictions announced for Victoria as state registers three new COVID cases

Three more cases of COVID were confirmed in the state after the first three cases were announced on Wednesday

The first three cases have been linked to Thai restaurant Smile Buffalo in Black Rock

A returning traveler from NSW was confirmed to have gone to the restaurant on December 21, Acting Prime Minister Jactina Allan said on Thursday

Anyone who was there that evening is urged to get tested as soon as possible

As of 5 p.m. Thursday, residents of Victoria will only be able to receive 15 visitors to their homes, up from 30

“If you are planning a party tonight, you will need to reduce your numbers,” Allan said

“We apologize to the people who put plans in place, who were eager to organize events at their homes or at other people’s homes, but this is a necessary step”

Anyone who went to Smile Buffalo Thai restaurant in Black Rock on December 21 was asked to get tested immediately and self-isolate for 14 days

Likewise, parishioners who attended Holy Family Parish Doveton Catholic Church on December 26 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. are urged to self-isolate for two weeks and get tested.

“The situation is changing rapidly and we don’t want you to be trapped in New South Wales,” said Professor Allen Cheng, deputy director of health

Sydney’s push for half-full SCG in third test will continue despite increased coronavirus cases

As a second Sydney cluster was confirmed on Wednesday, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said 50% capacity at SCG would be safer than people gathering at the House

Australia’s chief medical officer Paul Kelly said he would advise elderly members of his tragic cricket family not to attend the test but had no major issues with the game which would take place in Sydney

Next week’s third test between Australia and India in Sydney will remain the pink test for the McGrath Foundation, but several crowd protocols will change

Spectators will be cautioned against shouting and chanting, while fans will also be asked to wear a mask when away from their seats

On Wednesday morning, officials claimed a capacity of 50%, predicting a “benchmark” crowd of 19,000

But even though 18 new cases of COVID-19 hamper this outbreak, the NSW government has declared 50% capacity as a safe option

“The best health advice for us is that 50% of the capacity of this place in an outdoor setting is safer than being in a household in confined spaces,” said Berejiklian
