As 2021 limits some aspects of goal setting due to the global pandemic, Dr Murray said setting meaningful goals is key to success
“ Find your meaning and set meaningful goals for yourself to thrive, ” she said, adding, “ Goal setting helps us stay focused on progressing towards the things we want. ‘
Some options may include reading a book once a month, meditating once a day, joining a gym, or visiting family more often

3 One small change at a time – change one behavior at a time and it will probably last
4 Gather your supports – share your goals with your loved ones and let them support you
Due to the uncertainty of 2021, Dr Murray said that care should be taken to avoid being too ambitious when setting targets, as these are less likely to be met
“If we expect too much, we will probably be exhausted at the very thought of starting resolutions,” she said.
‘Setting too ambitious goals and too much zooming out right now will only make us feel exhausted and overwhelmed’
Rather than setting huge goals, Dr Murray suggests “ starting small ” and then gradually working towards larger goals
When working towards personal goals it is likely that setbacks will occur – but it is essential to overcome these obstacles and keep working towards the goal rather than giving up
Dr Murray said: ‘Accept setbacks and readjust yourself, and enjoy the improved mood when you hit them’
Overcoming failure will put you on the right path to achieving whatever end goal it is
