Queenslanders who want to see 2020 in style are invited to celebrate in safety by enjoying only the legal fireworks

Resources Minister Scott Stewart says watching a staged public fireworks display is the safe and responsible way to enjoy the fireworks during the holiday season

“2020 has been a tough year for all of us, so the last thing anyone needs is serious injury from illegal fireworks,” Mr. Stewart

“Although the number of fireworks displays is significantly lower this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will still be a number of displays monitored by experienced and licensed fireworks contractors

“Fireworks professionals are bound by strict safety laws to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for Queenslanders wishing to celebrate”

M Stewart said those who know of anyone illegally selling or using fireworks should contact the Queensland Police Department or an explosives inspector

“Anyone caught using or possessing fireworks illegally can be prosecuted, with severe penalties of up to $ 53,380 in fines or six months in jail,” a- he declared

M Stewart also reminded pet owners to consider the impact of fireworks on their pets, who can easily be frightened by the sounds.

“Pets should be secure inside the house so that they are comfortable in a familiar environment and cannot run away in a state of distress,” he said

To hand over fireworks without prosecution, contact the inspector of explosives by calling 1300 739 868 and arrange for collection and disposal
