Acclaimed singer Vanessa Amorosi sues her own mother in court as ‘missing’ music income during her career is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars
According to a statement filed by Amorosi’s attorneys and obtained by The Age, she is looking for the proceeds of previous royalties, touring income and investments which she says have disappeared
She also alleges that her mother – from whom she is estranged – took control of her finances in September 1999 when she was 17, according to a statement submitted by her lawyers
Court documents reveal Ms Robinson later set up a company named ‘Vanjoy’, where Amorosi and his mother owned half of the shares
Amorosi’s subsequent income was paid to Vanjoy, with financial transactions being controlled by Ms Robinson
In November 1999, Amorosi released the hit song Absolutely Everybody, which catapulted her to instant music stardom
She continued to perform at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 before touring overseas and Australia
Over the next few years, Amorosi alleges that she asked her mother to protect her money, and Robinson is said to have opened other financial trust accounts
In a key example presented in the lawsuit, companies controlled by Ms Robinson allegedly attributed income of $ 862,512 to Amorosi in 2000 and 2001
The singer, now 39, used 390,000 people to buy property in Narre Warren, south-east Melbourne, at the time
Amorosi seeks to become the sole trustee of the multiple trusts Robinson established in addition to fair compensation for money paid to others during his career, which spanned more than two decades
The singer is based in Los Angeles and is believed to have not spoken to her mother for some time
