Perhaps Blizzard’s most anticipated game in development (that we know of) is Diablo 4, the next main installment in the iconic action-RPG series It was first revealed at BlizzCon 2019 via a cinematic trailer accompanied by a gameplay showcase Participants also had the chance to familiarize themselves with a playable demo There have been quarterly updates for developers since then, but there’s still a lot more we want to know about the game – we expect this to change soon

BlizzConline is taking place this weekend, which is a virtual version of the event.Due to the global pandemic, BlizzCon 2020 has naturally been canceled, but it also means the developer may have a lot to share on their next games In anticipation of the new Diablo 4 news expected during the event, we’ve rounded up everything we know so far about the game. For more on Blizzard’s games and what we can expect from the event, be sure to check out everything we know about the future of Hearthstone.

Diablo 4 is in development for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 With the latest console generation upon us, it’s likely we’ll hear about the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game as well. Diablo 3 has been released on Nintendo Switch, but there is no word on its sequel receiving the same treatment

As for the launch date, Diablo 4 currently does not have a release date or release window, but Activision has said the game will not be released this year

Diablo 4 takes a darker, more grounded approach to its history, and that tone seems to have been set from what we’ve seen. It’ll be a direct sequel set decades after the events of the Diablo expansion. 3 Reaper of Souls, but Blizzard said it focuses more on commoners and their struggles in the ravaged world of Sanctuary, as opposed to supernatural demonic greatness

The reveal trailer was terrifying in its own way, showing a blood sacrifice to resurrect the evil demonic Lilith, who is in part responsible for creating Sanctuary, which is the mortal world of the Diablo franchise The BlizzCon 2019 also presented a panel on the history and lore of Diablo 4 and offered a ton of information on the construction of the world of the next game

The shrine is made up of five different regions: Fractured Peaks (snow capped mountains), Dry Steppes (desert), Hawezar (swamp), Scosglen (coastal forests) and Kehjistan (ruins of a past civilization) We have been able to see them in the game and in the artwork and they all represent separate biomes, and you’ll be visiting them all in the Diablo 4 campaign

Diablo 4 is set up as a shared open-world online game with multiple dungeons and regions that players can choose to explore While other Diablo games have followed a more linear story progression with Acts, Diablo 4 is supposed to offer more freedom with where you want to go and what you want to do even with an ongoing story

From what we’ve seen and played so far, Diablo 4 doesn’t stray far from its roots. It’s still an isometric, dungeon-crawling action RPG with different character classes that play out differently from each other The Diablo series is built around loot and gear as you progress battling hordes of tough enemies and bosses, which the franchise is known for

Some of the more notable features announced are PvP battles, mounts for faster traversal, and character creation customization tools Specifically, Runewords (a feature of Diablo 2) are the way to tweak your character and further fine-tune how they work – attaching Runewords grants different effects and stat boosts. All classes also have skill rankings and talent trees that you will progress through as you level up.The skill and talent trees will be extensive for each class and Blizzard has stated that players will not have that about 40% of skills unlocked by the time they reach the end of the game

Diablo 4 will be an always online game in a persistent world shared with other players, even for those who wish to have a single player experience However, multiplayer is a big factor in the Diablo experience – enemies will evolve depending on group levels and dungeons will be separate instances with various difficulty options

When it comes to character classes, Diablo 4 will have five in total So far we only know of three, all coming from previous games: Barbarian, Druid and Sorceress / Sorcerer

Barbarian is your powerful melee class that uses axes, swords, firearms, and various one and two handed weapons What’s new here is the arsenal system that grants barbarians four slots weapons so you can swap them easily Barbarians have strong AOE attacks and quick strikes

Druids are shapeshifters who use earth and storm magic. They can morph into werewolf or were bear for different attacks, and can even transition between forms mid-combo to diversify their set of movements in combat (called transparent shapeshifting)

Sorceress / Sorcerer is your standard mage class that uses a combination of fire, lightning and ice magic with various attack properties like AOE, AOD or direct damage Among the many spells they have, one that stands out is to transform into a ball of lightning and traverse the map to hit multiple targets and deal significant damage.

We’ve been covering Diablo 4 since its reveal, and there’s a ton of finer details about the game. If you want more, check out our stories below:
