Ebene News – US – German unemployment continues to fall in June as recovery accelerates

BERLIN (Reuters) – German unemployment fell further in June as more workers joined the labor market in light of a strong recovery in Europe’s largest economy aided by the drop in coronavirus infections and an easing of containment measures, data showed on Wednesday

Better-than-expected labor market data increases chances of a consumption-led recovery in summer months, with households ready to spend after months of limited spending options due to related restrictions to COVID-19

The Labor Office says the number of jobless people fell from 38,000 in seasonally adjusted terms to 2,691 million A Reuters poll predicted a drop of 20,000

As a further positive sign, the number of employees subject to reduced working hours under job protection programs, also known as Kurzarbeit, fell sharply in June, according to preliminary figures

“Companies are reducing short-time working and looking for new staff again,” said Detlef Scheele, director of the labor office, adding that unemployment and underemployment continued to fall sharply
