LeBron James will appear in his 17th consecutive NBA All-Star Game next month, while his Lakers co-star Anthony Davis is still in limbo But it wasn’t the total votes of those two, or Alex Caruso who finished eighth among Western Conference guards in the fan vote that was the most surprising development in Thursday’s reveal. Two-way player Kostas Antetokounmpo received the third highest number of NBA player votes of all Laker

Yes, you read that correctly Kostas Antetokounmpo has received more votes from his teammates (10) than he has combined minutes (8) and points (0) this season Only Anthony Davis (120) and LeBron James (214) got more votes from NBA players, who account for 25% of the vote to determine All-Star Game starters Fans (50%) and media (25%) make up the rest of the electorate NBA coaches then vote on reservations

10 votes might not look like this, but to put the weird Kostas tally in context, here are the total votes of all Lakers members of their fellow players:

So how did this happen? The most likely theory is that at least a few players clicked on Antetokounmpo’s wrong brother in the drop-down menu, presumably intending to vote for Kostas’ brother and two-time reigning MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo.

But maybe it wasn’t an accident! If so, I have a few conspiracy theories:

Either way, it’s a continuation of the trend for players not to take the All-Star vote very seriously

AP Analysis: 310 players got at least one All-Star starting vote of themselves or an NBA player this season, a ridiculous new record, breaking the 292 mark last season

Now listen, I can’t bring myself to caring too much about it, especially when Klay Thompson got the ninth highest number of votes of all the guards from the fans and didn’t play a single minute this season If players want to try and memorize their friend in the All-Star game, far from me to tell them not to have fun It’s not like Kostas is actually going to make the game

But whatever happened here, it’s just hilarious, and obviously just the last proof that Giannis should demand a trade from the Lakers Because good: if Kostas can get 10 votes in eight minutes of playing time , imagine what Giannis could do It’s time to launch swaps
